For many of you, last week marked the next major milestone in your life. You received you’re A-Level results and enrolled in your chosen university. Those of you choosing Edge Hill will have a short time to relax before the welcome week festivities begin. However, this time of year also means a few goodbyes. It’s time for many of Edge Hill’s third years to throw their caps and move on to the next stage in their lives.
Saying Goodbye
Lots of people will have made some great friends this year, and it is often sad to see them go. However, there is always a chance for a reunion in Ormskirk with the many bars and restaurants – so it doesn’t have to be goodbye forever. Take Mylo and Co for example, with regular quiz nights and live music it’s the perfect place to get together again.
Moving in
September marks an exciting time for a lot of new students to Edge Hill. It’s time to move into your new accommodation and meet a whole bunch of new people. If you’re anything like me, you look forward to having your own space that you can call your own and decorate how you like!
Moving in for me was a great experience especially when it was with McComb Students. I got to know who I was living with thanks to the handy Facebook groups McComb created and moderated. On move in day we all got an allotted time which meant that the space around the accommodation didn’t get too congested with peoples cars and it meant we all got our own welcome meeting with the McComb staff and fellow residents, which made me feel very welcome. This year, McComb have stepped it up by giving every student staying with them a McComb Students hoodie in a colour of their choice!
A fresh start
Moving to university is an exciting time but it is also quite a scary time for a lot of people. But don’t fret, Edge Hill have a great pastoral support team that are always on hand to help and support if you needed. If you wanted more of a familiar face, then you can always book an appointment with McComb’s student support as they too are always there to help if you needed.
Most importantly though, don’t forget to enjoy your first few weeks at university. When people say it goes way too quickly, they’re right. Before you know it you’ll be in your second year and the hard work will certainly begin.
Keep an eye on @mccombstudents’ Instagram for updates and notices about what’s happening this years welcome week.
Enjoy!
