Best Places STILL OPEN In Ormskirk (despite lockdown)

Student Life

So it’s no secret that the freshers’ experience for the new generation of first-years has taken a bit of a nosedive compared to years prior. But this isn’t to say hope is lost for that fun freshers experience so many first-years crave. Here are a few of the places still open to students in Ormskirk to make the most of your freshers experience.

Mandrakes:

A must-have experience for any fans of Harry Potter, Mandrakes operates as a hybrid between a coffee shop and a merchandise store. So you can go in for a latte with your flatmates and leave with your own Noble Collection wand!

Mandrakes is located within an easy to walk distance from all of the McComb student properties making it the perfect bonding location for those of you looking for that magical student experience.

Harry Potter not your thing? That’s fine! There’s plenty of other cafe’s dotted around Ormskirk such as Costa and Love-to-Eat that make for the perfect place to unwind with a coffee whilst cracking out some uni work as well!

Ormskirk Market:

Located in the beautiful town centre of Ormskirk, the market puts out the finest things to see, hear and, most importantly, taste from fresh cakes to fresh cheeses. It’s a must for any student who wants to experience the market town at its fullest.

The market itself can boast of having up to one hundred different market stalls that span the likes of Church Street, Moor Street and Aughton Street every Thursday and every Saturday.

So go on! Treat yourself!

On-Campus Activities for 2020:

The Edge Hill University SU has implemented plenty of fun events on campus this year. Along with their gym and leisure centre (which has its own twenty-five-metre long swimming pool), this year, the folks at the Art’s Centre are hosting outdoor movie screenings! All with the McComb properties being within an easy fifteen-minute walk to campus or two-minute walk to the bus stop (free with a student card).

Make sure to check out the Art’s Centre page on the Edge Hill website to see what’s on! This week we’re getting into the Halloween spirit with Hocus Pocus!

So there we are! As we can see, Ormskirk is a lively town perfect for student living just rife with things to do. Whether that be enjoying the magical ambience of Mandrakes, or an outdoor screening outside the Art’s Centre, we hope you can make the most of your time at university! But please if you are set to go exploring the many wonders Ormskirk has to offer, do so wearing a mask, and keeping a handy pocket-sized sanitizer with you at all times but most importantly have fun! (responsibly)
