What does this mean?
The National Code was developed due to a number of concerns about the sector of privately owned and managed student accommodation.
In response to this, the National Code was launched in 2004, with the aim to approve certain accommodation providers who meet the strict set of codes given. Students living in an accommodation covered by the Codes can expect:
- Buildings that meet or exceed the local authorities fire safety requirements.
- Sufficient bathroom and kitchen facilities.
- All repairs to be completed within agreed timescales.
- Advanced notification if managers need to access rooms and/ or flats to undertake routine inspections or planned maintenance.
- Managers of buildings to act in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
