Places to eat in Ormskirk

News

Feeling peckish?

Ormskirk is home to some of the most well-known eateries in the North West – including everything from cosy little coffee shops and cafés to traditional fish and chip shops, pubs and restaurants. And, for days when you’re feeling a tad worse for wear after a night out – or just when you need to grab something quick to eat, you’ll find your favourite fast-food chains, including McDonald’s, Subway and Dominos in the town centre.

Got a day of lectures and not enough milk to make breakfast? Or maybe you’ve not had time to do the weekly shop and don’t have anything in the fridge for your tea? Here at McComb Students, we know that student life isn’t easy. Not only do you have to juggle your studies with your social life, you also have to learn how to budget your monthly expenses. That’s why we thought we’d share some of the very best places to eat in Ormskirk – covering all bases.

Top 10 places to eat and drink in Ormskirk

  1. The Barn at Moor Hall – set in a charming setting, and offering a delicious and varied menu, The Barn at Moor Hall showcases some of the best seasonal dishes and Sunday lunches. Whilst you could wine and dine at the (expensive) award-winning two Michelin star restaurant, The Barn is a more affordable alternative for students.
  1. Master McGraths – if you’re a lover of traditional British food then Master McGraths is the place to visit. They have an extensive range of menus, offering everything from lunchtime meals and sandwiches to Sunday roasts which run alongside their A La Carte menu.
  1. The Hop Vine – looking for some good pub grub? The Hop Vine serves a plethora of delicious dishes – all of which are made from locally sourced ingredients. Choose from pub classics, such as steak & ale pie, lasagne and battered fish and chips, and a lengthy list of wines. They even offer a convenient takeaway service.
  1. Owd Barn at Bispham – not too far from Ormskirk is the Owd Barn at Bispham which was established in 1990. Here you can enjoy traditional homemade meals, sweet treats or just sit back and relax with a nice cup of tea or fresh ground coffee. Don’t have time to eat-in at the rustic tearoom? No problem, they provide fresh sandwiches, toasties and chips to takeout.
  1. The Fat Italian – do you love Italian food? Whether it be calamari, spaghetti Bolognese or pepperoni pizza, The Fat Italian is the place to eat in Ormskirk! But in addition to their tasty pasta dishes and 10” pizzas, they provide Mediterranean, gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options too.
  1. Piri Piri – if you fancy something spicy, then this is right up your street. Ranging from succulent starters – all freshly cooked and beautifully presented – to scrumptious desserts, Piri Piri serve the best Portuguese cuisine around. They even have a fantastic selection of wines, spirits and cocktails to choose from.
  1. The Saracens Head – nestled in the beautiful Lancashire countryside, The Saracens Head is perched along the banks of the Leeds/Liverpool canal. Their menu showcases local produce that has been sourced from around the UK and a variety of fine wines, speciality craft beers and cask ales. What’s more, it takes no more than 15 minutes to reach from the campus.
  1. The Tea Room at Scarisbrick Marina – enjoy a warm atmosphere, delicious food and a cuppa from the quaint tearoom at Scarisbrick Marina (4.5 miles from the university). They provide breakfasts, such as poached or scrambled eggs, bacon and egg on bread, and lunch meals such as gourmet burgers with cheese and onion rings, traditional hotpot and more.
  1. Mimi & Gin – liquid lunch anyone? Based in the heart of Ormskirk on Church Street, Mimi & Gin provides a fabulous selection of gins, wines, cocktails and beers. Add to this that they serve tasty nibbles, meat, fish, pizza, sharing platters and vegetarian options – and they have something for everyone.
  1. The Bagel Deli – whether it be breakfast on the go, lunch in-between lectures or brunch delivered to your door at the weekend, The Bagel Deli has you covered. They serve everything from freshly baked bagels, veggie and vegan stacks, Yorkshire pudding wraps, cakes and drinks – including milkshakes.

Has all this talk of food made you hungry?

Whilst you might not be able to book a table right now, due to coronavirus restrictions, many places to eat in Ormskirk have decided to offer a takeaway service – allowing customers to collect their food whilst adhering to social distancing. Some even provide a contactless delivery service which means you don’t have to leave your student accommodation (or change out of your pyjamas and slippers!) – just listen out for the doorbell.
