Settling into your new Student Accommodation

News

Moving to a new city and starting university is an exciting chapter in every student’s life. Among the various changes that come with this transition, one of the most important and rewarding aspects is building new friendships. Your student accommodation can be the perfect platform to forge lifelong bonds and create unforgettable memories. Here are some valuable tips to help you make friends and get to know your fellow students in your university accommodation. If you’re staying with McComb Students  or another accommodation provider, this blog will be helpful either way, so enjoy the read!

1. Embrace Openness and Positivity

Approach your new living situation with an open mind and a positive attitude. Remember that everyone is in the same boat, looking to meet new people and make friends. Greet your new flatmates with a smile and introduce yourself, creating an approachable image right from the start.

Did you know, if you’re moving in with McComb Students  you will probably meet a lot of your new roommates on your move in day!

2. Participate in Welcome Events

Universities often organise welcome events and activities specifically designed to help students get to know one another. Attend these events, whether they’re virtual or in person, as they provide an excellent opportunity to interact with your peers in a relaxed and friendly environment.

McComb Students  also host events throughout the year to give you the opportunity to meet your roommates and get to know each other, Pizza Nights are always a huge hit!

3. Organize a Flat Gathering

Take the initiative to organise a small gathering or a flat-warming party. This could be as simple as a movie night, a board game session, or a takeaway. It’s a fantastic way to break the ice and create a comfortable atmosphere for everyone to connect.

5. Join Societies and Clubs

Universities offer a wide array of clubs and societies catering to various interests and hobbies. Joining these groups not only lets you pursue your passions but also introduces you to like-minded individuals who share your enthusiasm. Whether it’s a sports team, an art club, or a debate society, these groups offer a great way to connect with others beyond your accommodation.

6. Utilize Social Media and Group Chats

Many accommodations have dedicated social media groups or messaging apps where residents can communicate. These platforms are an excellent way to stay informed about events, share tips, and arrange casual meetups with your flatmates.

If you’re staying with McComb Students   you will have recently received an email with links to your Facebook Groups!

7. Attend Study Groups

Studying together can be an effective way to bond with your peers. Forming or joining study groups allows you to collaborate academically while also getting to know each other on a deeper level.

8. Explore Your Surroundings Together

Discovering the town centre of Ormskirk is an adventure best shared with friends. Organise outings to local cafes, parks, or shops. Exploring together will not only help you learn more about your surroundings but also strengthen your friendships.

9. Be a Good Listener

Effective communication is a two-way street. Be genuinely interested in your flatmates’ stories, experiences, and backgrounds. Listening actively shows that you value their input and encourages them to share more.

10. Respect Differences

Universities are renowned for their diverse student bodies. Embrace the opportunity to interact with people from various cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life. Learn about their perspectives and traditions, and in turn, share your own experiences.

Moving into a new student accommodation is an exciting opportunity to create lasting friendships and expand your horizons. By staying open, proactive, and respectful, you can make the most of this experience and build connections that will enrich your university journey. Remember, everyone is looking to make friends, so take the first step and enjoy this exciting chapter of your life!
